At the most ‘immediate’ level, Manhattan 2050 consists of speculations upon the future urban development of New York City. At its most general, the work utilises conceptual models and methods which transcend the subjects of architecture and urbanism. In between are situated themes related to the discipline of urban planning. It is hoped that this diversity of content from the particular to the abstract will stimulate responses from professionals and academics whose theoretical interests are convergent with the themes outlined in Manhattan 2050.
